The Salt Path
(2024, Cert 12A, 1 hr 51 mins)
Director: Marianne Elliott Writer: Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Raynor Winn Starring: Jason Isaacs, Gillian Anderson, James Lance Genre: Docudrama, Tragedy Based on the 2018 memoir by Raynor Lynn with strong performances from Gillian Anderson, as the author, and Jason Isaacs, as Moth Lynn, her husband.
The fear of financial insufficiency and illness can rank large in one’s later years. Faced with sudden financial ruin and ill health, the author and her husband embark upon a journey, on foot, along the 630 mile South West Coastal Path as a means of financial and emotional survival. Meeting with sympathy, as well as scorn, along the way, their relationship helps them to endure the many privations this brings and proves redemptive. Though doubt has been cast upon how it was that the Lynns got into this situation and the seriousness of Moth’s medical condition, the fact is that the sense of security for their later years was kicked from under them and they had to deal with the result.
