The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry

(2023, Cert  12A, 1 hr 48 mins)

Director: Hettie Macdonald

Screenwriter: Rachel Joyce

Starring: Jim Broadbent, Penelope Wilton,

Genres: Drama

Based on the best-selling book by Rachel Joyce, who also wrote the screenplay, the film stars Jim Broadbent as Fry, who walks from Devon to Berwick upon Tweed to see an old colleague who has cancer and is in a hospice. With various adventures en route, his wife is played by Penelope Wilton and the journey causes the couple to re-examine their relationship.

“It’s a non-religious pilgrim story about the power of hope and faith. A movie that celebrates everyday joys and human connection. The perfect pick-me-up tonic for tough times.”  Metro

“This may even be one of those rare instances where the film is better than the book.” The Spectator
