COVID-19 / Pandemic has thwarted the take up of the units in the past 2 years. Summer 2022 saw the country come out of the pandemic and the GMDT are very pleased to signal the start of many new station business ventures. Up to 7 small businesses can be accommodated in what were formerly vacant offices in the main station building that dates back to 1846, as of March 2023 only 1 unit (#6) is free. The new cafeteria has opened at the railway station creating a meeting point for travellers and residents around the station to meet / chat and have a coffee – watching the trains go by.

The £2.3m programme of refurbishment and improvements at Morpeth Railway Station  was completed in February 2020 and not only ensures its long-term future as a modern travel hub, but creates new business hubs and a social meeting place for people to get together.
