It is 1928 and the Crawley family is faced with expensive repairs to Downton Abbey, so Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) suggests renting the building to a Hollywood film company for making one of the new silent movies. The Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) is not keen but the downstairs staff are thrilled. Meanwhile, Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) finds out she has mysteriously inherited a villa in the south of France, and members of the family set off to find out more about Violet’s past. And so the scene is set for another absorbing drama featuring all the familiar actors from the TV series including Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Phyllis Logan, Jim Carson, Penelope Wilton, and Imelda Staunton.
