Market Towns Awards

On the week commencing 12th October 2009, the Action for Market Towns Convention took place. As usual the awards highlighted some excellent projects.  Here you can download the AMT's review of the winning regional projects.

Of particular interest, we think, are:

Putting the pride back into Melton - a shop local scheme

Sports Coaching in Trowbridge - increasing sports participation in the town

Youthie and Youthie + - development of youth groups in Swaffham

Faringdon Ecoweek - 33 eco events involving the whole community.  This project was the national winner.

Incredible Edible Todmorden - which aims to increase the amount of local food grown and eaten in the town. "Businesses, schools, farmers and the community are all involved. Vegetables and fruit are springing up everywhere. Public flower beds are being transformed into community herb gardens and vegetable patches."

If you would like to hear more on how they did it the project is holding an event on Saturday 14th November - cost £10 for volunteer orgs. www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk

And of course GMDT's flood recovery events programme!

But you can judge for yourselves.
