Based on the novel of the same name, the film is set in 1946, and concerns writer Juliet Ashton (Lily James) who begins exchanging letters with residents of a book club, the so called Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on the Channel island, which was under German occupation during the second World War. Juliet corresponds with members of the book club and when an idea for a book emerges, she goes to the island, and gets involved with the lives of the book club members, with life changing consequences.
Directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Four Weddings and a Funeral) this is an unashamedly feel good film with an all star ensemble cast including established actors Tom Courtney and Penelope Wilton, and an engaging central performance from Lily James; the film is an “irresistible romantic mystery.” (Daily Telegraph)
