52nd Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering – Day 1

April 26 @ 9:30 am - 10:00 pm

Festival of Northumberland’s traditional music and culture. + special Ower the Watter international themed events. Many free events. Prices: adult/unwaged/school age. Under 5s free.

09.30 – 17.00 CRAFTS EXHIBITION + refreshments; craft competition entries (rec’d Thur. 25th April 5.30 pm – 7 pm). Displays/stalls: needlework, shepherds’ sticks, leather-work, clogmaking. CDs, books, photos, t-shirts, mugs on sale in the Town Hall  50p at door/accompanied under-12s free

10.00– 16.00 OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT & STALLS Punch & Judy, Rent a Peasant, Ran Tanners, Jim Grant, Archaeosoup, Time Bandits on the Market Place and in Sanderson Arcade  Free

10.00 DANCE WORKSHOPS 10.00 circle dancing; 11.15 clog; 13.00 historic; 14.15 Breton; 15.45 maypole in the Town Hall; £2/£1 per session at door

10.30 – 15.00 FAMILY ART ACTIVITIES Riverside Leisure Centre café, New Market Free

10.30 – 16.30 NORTHUMBRIAN PIPES: PLAY IN A DAY for adults (over 16) with Dave Shaw. Smallpipes provided. At the Chantry Bagpipe Museum £24 – please book in advance

14.00 OFFICIAL OPENING of Gathering by Mayor in the Town Hall

16.30 STORYTIME with Jim Grant  in the Library, Manchester St  Free

17.30 – 18.30 CASTLE COAST poetry book launch with InHouse Poets; vocal music from Seaglass  in the Chantry  Free – limited space –  tickets from Eventbrite or Chantry TIC

19.30 – 22.00 OWER THE WATTER concert – New Voices choir, Folkestra youth band, Baltic Crossing (music of NE England and Scandinavia) in Morpeth Methodist Church, Howard Rd £12/£10/£8 

20.00   MUSICIANS’ SESSION at the Tap & Spile, Manchester St   Donations
